How to Clean a Blender Properly: Quick Daily Clean and Deep Clean

21 October 2026

Portable rechargeable blender – how to clean a blender properly

The easiest way to clean a blender is to do it straight after you use it, before food dries on the blades. Most of the time, a little warm water and a drop of dish soap is all you need. Here is the quick method, a weekly deep clean, and what to do about smells, stains and cloudy jugs.

The 2-minute clean (after every use)

  1. Rinse. Pour out what's left and give the jug a quick rinse.
  2. Add warm water and soap. Fill the jug about halfway with warm water and add one drop of dish soap.
  3. Blend. Put the lid on and blend for 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Rinse again. Pour out the soapy water and rinse the jug with clean water.
  5. Dry. Leave it upside down with the lid off so it dries fully.

Use warm water, not boiling water, unless your blender's manual says the jug can take high heat.

The weekly deep clean

  1. Unplug first. Always unplug the blender, or switch off a portable one, before you take anything apart.
  2. Take it apart. If your model allows it, remove the blade unit and the rubber seal (gasket). Food and smells hide under the seal.
  3. Soak. Soak the jug, lid, seal and blade unit in warm soapy water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Scrub. Use a bottle brush or soft sponge around the blades. Never use your fingers on the blade edges.
  5. Rinse and dry everything before putting it back together, so no water is trapped under the seal.

Removing smells, stains and cloudiness

  • Smells (garlic, onion, protein shakes): blend warm water with 1 tablespoon of baking soda, leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse.
  • Cloudy glass or plastic jugs: blend warm water with half a cup of white vinegar, then wash with soap and rinse. Hard UAE tap water often leaves this mineral film.
  • Stains from turmeric or berries: a paste of baking soda and water, rubbed gently and left for a few minutes, usually lifts them.

How to clean a portable blender

Portable blenders like the Bson 600 ml portable blender have the motor and battery in the base, so they need a little extra care:

  • Use the 2-minute clean above: water, one drop of soap, a short blend, rinse.
  • Never put the base or the charging port in water. Wipe the outside of the base with a damp cloth only.
  • Make sure the charging port is completely dry before you charge it again.
  • Follow the maker's manual for which parts can be detached and washed.

Can I put my blender in the dishwasher?

Only the parts the manual says are dishwasher-safe, usually the jug and lid. The motor base and most blade units should be washed by hand. Dishwashers can also dull blades and wear out rubber seals faster.

FAQs

How often should I clean my blender?

Do the quick clean after every use, and a deep clean once a week if you use it daily.

Why does my blender still smell after washing?

The smell is usually trapped in the rubber seal under the blades. Take the seal out, soak it in warm soapy water, then try the baking soda blend.

Is it safe to wash blender blades by hand?

Yes, if you are careful. Use a brush rather than your fingers, and hold the blade unit by its base.
