How to Make Perfume Last Longer in the UAE Heat (and Travel With It)
18 October 2026

In the UAE, heat and air conditioning can make even a good perfume fade faster than you'd like. The good news is that a few small habits make a big difference to how long your scent lasts, and how long the bottle stays fresh.
7 ways to make your perfume last longer
1. Apply it to clean, moisturised skin
Fragrance holds better on hydrated skin than on dry skin. Apply an unscented moisturiser first, then your perfume.
2. Spray on pulse points
The wrists, the sides of the neck, behind the ears and the inner elbows are warmer areas that help the scent develop through the day.
3. Don't rub your wrists together
Rubbing breaks down the top notes faster. Spray, then let it dry on its own.
4. Spray your clothes and hair lightly
Fabric and hair hold fragrance well. Mist from a distance and test on an inside seam first, as some perfumes can mark light or delicate fabrics.
5. Choose Eau de Parfum for longer wear
Eau de Parfum (EDP) usually has a higher concentration of fragrance oils than Eau de Toilette (EDT), so it generally lasts longer on the skin. Arabic perfumes such as Lattafa Khamrah, Lattafa Haya and Ward Al Arab Hayfa are all EDPs.
6. Layer your scent
Using a matching body mist or an unscented base under your perfume helps it last longer. Rich notes like oud, amber and vanilla also tend to linger longer than light citrus scents.
7. Top up during the day
Carry a small refillable atomiser for a quick refresh at work or before an evening out. The Ayzoq 5 ml Refillable Travel Perfume Atomizer (AED 24.99) fits in a pocket or handbag.
How to store perfume in the UAE
- Keep it away from heat and direct sunlight. A cupboard or drawer is better than a sunny windowsill.
- Never leave perfume in a hot car. Summer temperatures inside a parked car can damage the scent quickly.
- Keep the cap on to limit contact with air.
Does perfume expire?
Most perfumes stay at their best for around 3–5 years, and longer if stored well. Signs a perfume has turned include a sour or sharp smell and a darker colour.
Can I carry perfume in my hand luggage?
Yes, within the liquids rules. Each bottle in your hand luggage must usually be 100 ml or less and fit in a clear, resealable liquids bag. A 100 ml bottle is fine; a larger one needs to go in your checked suitcase, well wrapped. For short trips, decanting into a travel atomiser saves space and avoids carrying a full bottle. Always check the rules for your airport and airline before you fly.
FAQs
Why does my perfume fade so fast?
Dry skin, heat, rubbing your wrists and lighter fragrance types like EDT or citrus scents can all make perfume fade faster.
What is oud perfume?
Oud is a rich, woody fragrance note that is very popular in Arabic perfumery, often combined with sweet, floral or spicy notes.
Is EDP or EDT better for the UAE?
EDP usually lasts longer, which helps in hot weather. EDT is lighter and can feel fresher for daytime.
