Can I Take a Power Bank on a Flight? UAE Airline Rules Explained
18 October 2026

Yes, you can take a power bank on a flight from the UAE, but only in your hand luggage, and on most UAE airlines you can no longer use it on board. Here's what you need to know before you pack.
The quick answer
- Hand luggage only. Power banks are never allowed in checked bags.
- Up to 100Wh. That covers almost all phone power banks, including 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh models.
- One power bank on Emirates, Etihad and flydubai.
- No using or charging on board. You can't charge your phone from a power bank during the flight, or charge the power bank from the seat socket.
Rules by airline
| Airline | Max size | How many | Use on board? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emirates | Under 100Wh | 1 | No |
| Etihad | Up to 100Wh | 1 | No |
| flydubai | 100Wh | 1 | No (keep it switched off) |
| Air Arabia | Up to 100Wh | Not specified | No (keep it switched off) |
Emirates also asks that power banks show their capacity clearly and are not stored in the overhead lockers. Keep yours in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front of you. Rules can change, so always check your airline's website before you fly.
How to check your power bank's Wh
Most power banks show mAh, not Wh. To convert, multiply the mAh by 3.7 and divide by 1,000:
| Power bank | Approx. Wh | Allowed? |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000mAh | 18.5Wh | Yes |
| 10,000mAh | 37Wh | Yes |
| 20,000mAh | 74Wh | Yes |
| 30,000mAh | 111Wh | Usually not |
If the capacity label has worn off, your power bank may be refused at security.
Best power banks for travel
Since you can't charge on board, a compact power bank you can use at the airport and when you land is ideal:
- noaroe 5000mAh Mini Power Bank with Built-in USB-C Cable (AED 44.99): pocket-sized, no extra cable needed
- Dudao K22+ 10000mAh Mini Power Bank, 22.5W (AED 89): a full phone charge or more, with fast charging
- Promate Compact Power Bank, 20W PD (AED 149.99): dual USB-C to charge two devices
